The hand-made cloisonné enamel dial of the present watch depicts the famous clipper ship Flying Cloud which was built in Massachusetts, USA in 1851. This clipper is famous for her record-breaking trip from New York to San Francisco in the same year which took only 89 days compared to the 200 days for other ships to travel the same route. In 1853, Flying Cloud broke her own record by 13 hours, a record that lasted until 1989 when the sailboat Thursdays Child completed the passage in 80 days and 20 hours.
