Specialist note
Born in Germany, Jospeh Lauber came to the United States at the age of nine. He studied art at the Cooper Insititute and went on to serve as an apprentice to John LaFarge and worked with him on the sculptural decorations at Cornelius Vanderbilt's house in 1892. He designed windows for the Church of the Ascension in New York and Trinity Lutheran Chuch in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, among many others.
