Rowley's father, William Lygon the seventh Earl Beauchamp, was a model for Lord Marchmain, and the family home Madresfield, a model for Brideshead in Waugh's Brideshead Revisited. Waugh, who frequently stayed at Madresfield to write, absorbed much of the detail of the Lygons lifestyle and decanted it into his work.
