Fairfield Porter (1907-1975)

The bare tree depicted in the foreground of the present work is a common form in many of Fairfield Porter's paintings. Located on the artist's property in Southampton, New York, this elm tree provided the artist with inspiration for many years, becoming an iconic element of his repertoire.
