Circular and on spreading foot, with two scroll handles and detachable slightly domed cover with melon and acanthus foliage finial, the body and cover each chased with foliage, engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked near handle, maker's mark overstriking another, and inside cover with maker's mark only

The arms are those of Seymour impaling Popham almost certainly for Edward Seymour (1633-1707), later 4th Bt. and his second wife Laetitia (d. 1714), daugher of Alexander Popham of Littlecote, Wiltshire, whom he married in 1674. However Sir Edward eldest son by his first wife and also his grandson married members of the Popham family but the date of the object points to the arms being those of the 4th baronet.
