Cal. 19''' nickel-finished lever movement, 20 jewels, bimetallic compensation balance, wolf's tooth winding, gold cuvette with engraved inscription A nuestro querido hijo Emilio, con todo el immienso cariño de tus padres, 19=III=1939, white enamel dial, Roman numerals, aperture for moon phases, three subsidiary dials for constant seconds and day, month and date, circular engine-turned case, front centred by a small circular blank cartouche with engraved initials ED, case stamped and numbered, cuvette numbered, movement numbered and signed by retailer

Specialist note

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with enamel dial and guilloched cover in 1866 and its subsequent sale on 29 September 1868.

This watch is amongst the earliest perpetual calendar watches made by Patek Philippe, still featuring the moon phases displayed through a half moon-shaped aperture as opposed to an individual subsidiary dial. Made in 1866, it is furthermore amongst the complicated watches made before Antoine de Patek's death in 1877.

Adrien Philippe's perpetual calendar mechanism was patented in 1889 but was already in use before, such watches however often featured experimental systems which were improved over the years.
