Specialist note
Although the authorship for the model upon which the present relief is based has often been given to the Florentine sculptor Francesco Fanelli, two virtually identical plaques bearing the monogram 'GAM' were sold in Christie's London, 9 December 1980, lot 170 and 13 April 1980, lot 101. These monograms connect the plaques to the Milanese medallist and coin engraver Giacomo Antonio Moro who was the Master of the Papal Mint from 1610 until 1624, under both Popes Paul V and Gregory XV.
