According to John Culme, this pair of unusual salt-cellars was designed by Jules Klagman and may well have been exhibited in the 1867 Paris International Exhibition.
Another pair of double salt cellars, similarly featuring seated putti and albatross or cockatoo, were also exhibited at the 1867 Paris Exposition, and are illustrated in Henri Bouilhet, 150 Ans D'Orfèvrerie Christofle silversmith since 1830, 1981, p. 111.
