In the Empire taste, comprising a circular stand fitted with four segmented covered dishes centering a circular dish, the borders with stylized foliage and the covers applied with seated hounds, marked on bases, covers, nuts, and finials; dishes and stand also engraved Puiforcat Paris

Specialist note

This supper service is based on a silver-gilt service commissioned by Napoleon as an official gift to Jean Bernadotte, marshal of France and later King of Sweden. The original service was made by Biennais and was subsequently acquired by the Puiforcat Collection, now at the Louvre.
