EMILE GALLÉ (1846-1904)
RARE INTERCALAIRE VASE, 1914
cameo glass, internally decorated, the surface acid-etched with decoration of a belligerent Prussian eagle, the Cross of Lorraine and thistles of Nancy bearing human features
11 in. (28 cm.) high
signed in cameo Gallé and 1914

Note du spécialiste

The decoration on the vase may be interpreted as a metaphor for the defence of Nancy in 1914. The caricatured faces on the thistles may represent those of Générals de Castelnau, Joffre and Foch.
