Oviform, each pierced scrolling rim punctuated with shield cartouches, the neck gilt with stylized acanthus above an ogival band enriched with 'pearls', the body with a fierce dragon perched among branches and sprays of thistles, the reverse with a foliate scrollwork motif incorporating crossed thorn stems, flanked by upright acanthus scroll handles with bearded-mask terminals, on a pierced foot cast with berried laurel and raised on four scroll feet applied with rampant lions

Specialist note

The manufacture formed by the partnership between Joseph Fabri and Franois-Paul Urtzschneider started producing ceramics in 1792 at Sarreguemines (Moselle). Under the direction of Alexander de Geiger, the factory underwent great expansion. By 1864 his son Paul de Geiger had become the technical director at the manufactory and is noted for developing a line of vases in the Renaissance revival taste.
