A FRENCH POLYCHROME PATINATED BRONZE FIGURAL GROUP ENTITLED 'LA FUITE EN EGYPTE'

Inspired by two paintings of the same subject that Gérôme exhibited at the 1897 Salon, La Fuite en Egypte was subsequently edited in two reductions, the present example benefiting from the distinctive polychrome patina favoured by Gérôme. Another example of this size recently sold at Sotheby's, London, 2 June 2009, lot 34 (£32,450).
