A VERY LARGE PAIR OF CHINESE EXPORT ARMORIAL CHARGERS
CIRCA 1735
The center boldly painted with a large coat-of-arms of Valckenier of Amsterdam with a shaded pink falcon crest, the rim with four sprays of flowering boughs in grisaille, iron-red and gilt
17¼ in. (43.4 cm.) diameter (2)

Specialist note

The Valckeniers were an important family in the Dutch China trade; Adriaan Valckenier was Governor-General of the Indies 1737-41. They ordered this armorial dinner service, another, similar, with grisaille borders and a service in blue and white.
