Shaped oval with gadroon borders, the centres of the shallow dishes and one side of each cover engraved with coat-of-arms, covers with scroll handles terminating in shells, each piece engraved with inventory number and scratch-weight

The arms on the dishes are those of Stanley quartering Smith for Edward Stanley (b. 1752) styled Lord Stanley.
Stanley succeeded his grandfather as 12th Earl of Derby in 1776. The arms on the covers are those of Stanley impaling Hamilton reflecting Stanley's rise within the peerage and his 1774 marriage to Elizabeth, daughter of 6th Duke of Hamilton and Brandon. (2)
