The flaring rim with inscription NON MIHI SED ALIIS TUNDOR MDXCIII above a frieze cast with bull's heads joined by festoons and bacchic revellers
16 cm. high x 19 cm. diam.

Specialist note

The inscription NON MIHI SED ALIIS TUNDOR - Not me but others things he grinds - date and frieze combinations on the present mortar can be found on another mortar in the Centraal Museum, Utrecht attributed by dr. D. A. Wittop Koning to the Utrecht founder Thomas Both (circa 1530-1593).
