VARIATION ONE
Arietta's Variation One is a blend of Merlot and Syrah from the Hudson Vineyards. According to Kongsgaard, the N Block is the only Merlot vineyard that is so well balanced that it yields 2.5 to 3 tons of fruit per acre without thinning or hedging. The Syrah in Variation One is grown on vines planted in gravel (an atypical soil in Carneros) and is co-fermented with the Merlot. If the H Block of lot 176 is Arietta's homage to right bank Bordeaux, Variation One is completely unique.
