A PAIR OF VICTORIAN GOTHIC-REVIVAL OAK ARMCHAIRS
CIRCA 1850
Each toprail centred with the head of a Talbot hound above a linen fold back and dished seat, the downswept arms on X-frame supports joined by a stretcher (2)

Note du spécialiste

The 'Talbot' is an ancient breed introduced to England in 1066 by William the Conqueror. These armchairs may conceivably be connected with the Earls Talbot and Shrewsbury, whose arms are supported by Talbot hounds.
