Acquired directly from the artist by the present owner in 1989.

Specialist note

In a letter to the present owner, Newcomb comments, 'I have a very good picture in my mind of your farm and field and horses and I'm starting on a painting. Perhaps I will do one or two so that you could choose' (Private correspondence, June 1989).
