Lot 40 PROPERTY FROM A DUTCH PRIVATE COLLECTION
"Everything is nature, even an old piece of pavement, a piece of an old wall, clouds if you wish, or a piece of landscape, sand or beach. But then look at things real close. The stucture, the construction of things. (...) A painting comes into being, there is not always a certain point of depart. There are also certain moments when you just begin painting, starting from a lump of nature, and slowly a painting grows. (...) In my work material is the central point, from this material I create a work of art, also spiritually, thus resulting in a connection between the material and the spirit of the work, the content" (Jaap Wagemaker in an undated interview in the RKD, The Hague)
