Specialist note

The sitter has traditionally been identified as one of the daughters of Robert Morris of Tredegar, Glamorgan. There are a number of appointments with a 'Miss Morris' in Reynolds's Pocket Book in April 1757 which may feasibly be linked with the present portrait.
