ROGERS, Charles (1711-1784). A Collection of Prints in Imitation of Drawings. To which are annexed lives of their authors. London: printed by J. Nichols, and sold by John Boydell, Benjamin White, and Peter Molini, 1778.

Volume I (of 2), 2° (543 x 347mm). Engraved portrait of Rogers after Joshua Reynolds, engraved additional title, dedication, and 39 leaves carrying 41 plates in various tints by W.W. Ryland, Sam. Watts, Sim. Watts, and J Basire, also including one woodcut plate by J. Deacon, after Italian masters. 3-page errata list at end. (Occasional light browning or spotting.) Contemporary russia gilt by Ph. Selenka, Wiesbaden, marbled edges (light scuffing to covers).

The plates, which use a wide variety of techniques, show some old master drawings in Rogers's own collection. His preface states: 'That these prints may be faithful imitations, they are engraved the same way as, as well as the same size, as the Originals are drawn; and printed, as nearly as possible, in the same colours'. R. Weigel, Die Werke der Maler in ihren Handzeichnungen p. 77 no. 122.
