A cloisonné, guilloché and champlevé enamel silver-gilt mounted album
Cyrillic mark of Pavel Ovchinnikov, Moscow, dated 1875, date letter partly rubbed
Rectangular, with applied conforming cover, shaped clasp and on four square feet, the cover plaque applied with raised panels, the centre with circular panel of red cloisonné flanked by two similar blue roundels, within vari-coloured stylized floral borders, four shaped translucent red enamelled panels over horizontal striped engraved ground, each further applied with a fabulous fish head, stylized foliate scrolls, flowers and fruit, the outer border of champlevé enamel with stylized birds, foliage and floral rosettes, with raised vari-coloured cloisonné enamel spandrels and outer chevron rim, each panel within elaborate rope-work borders, the clasp with a stylized design of cloisonné and vari-coloured enamel strapwork, foliate scrolls and pellets to both sides, the raised feet each of strapwork, rosette and pellet champlevé enamel design, in ropework and engraved foliate scrolls borders, with central knop, the album containing thirty four gilt-edged and decorated photograph mounts, with silk lined end-pages, marked on rope-work rims
The cloisonné enamel plaque on the cover 17. in. (43.2 cm.) long; the album 19 in. (48.9 cm.) long

Specialist note

A similar silver-gilt and cloisonné enamel photograph album by Ovchinnikov, 1879, decorated with similar foliate motifs and a coat of arms, presented to the governor-general of Moscow, Prince Vladimir Andreevich Dolgorukov, is in the collection of the State Historical Museum in Moscow.
