Lot 347 A COLLECTION OF PAINTINGS BY JACK CLARKSON (1906-1986)
Jack Clarkson's paintings are inspired by the industrial landscape of the 'Five Towns' of Stoke on Trent. Born in Yorkshire, he studied at the Royal Academy under the tutorage of Henry Moore who instilled in him a life long passion for both painting and sculpture. Like Lowry, his figures are dwarfed by workshops and factories. Through the subtle overlaying of geometric forms he makes the mundane magical, perfectly capturing the mechanism of industrialisation in a bygone era.
