Embroidered to the front with flowers, ribbons and the initials'AM' surmounted by a coronet, the reverse with the Russian inscription 'The Alexander Institute, Smolny, 28th October 1891'
58½ in (149 cm.) high; 41½ in. (105.5 cm.) extended

Specialist note

The Smolny Institute in St. Petersberg was created by Imperial commision in the late 18th century as a European-style school offering an academic program for the first time to young ladies from the nobility.
