A GERMAN ORMOLU-MOUNTED TULIPWOOD, KINGWOOD AND PARQUETRY SERPENTINE COMMODE
CIRCA 1750, ATTRIBUTED TO ABRAHAM ROENTGEN
With white marble top above three graduated long drawers, the sides with quartered diamond patterns, on splayed legs with sabots, the shaped apron with ribbion-tied oval medallion flanked by foliate scrolls, the marble top preciously with a gallery, partially remounted
34½ in. (87.5 cm.) high; 50½ in. (128.5 cm.) wide; 24½ in. (62 cm.) deep

Specialist note

The distinctive high-hipped bombé form, parquetry inlay, rococo mounts and brass-framed angles all find close parallels in the oeuvre of Abraham Roentgen, particularly with a commode, circa 1750-1755, which belonged to the Erzbishof and Kurfürst Johann Philipp von Walderdorff (J. M. Greber, Abraham und David Roentgen, Möbel för Europa, 1980, figs, 112 and 113).
