Specialist note

According to the Archives of Audemars Piguet, the present watch was sold to Cartier on 5 July 1971. It is interesting to note that a similar model bearing the preceding case number 61573 and also made by Audemars Piguet for Cartier was auctioned in this saleroom on 14 May 2007, lot 85.

The present watch is from the "Large Oval" series, launched by Cartier New York in the early 1970s. It differs from its Cartier London "Maxi Oval" counterpart by the larger case and numerals.

For another "Large Oval" wristwatch with movement signed Audemars Piguet as well as an example of the "Maxi Oval" version see The Cartier Collection - Timepieces, Editions Flammarion, p. 456.
