Born in 1900, Giuseppe Sebasti (1900-1961) was a painter who studied in Rome. He had spent part of his childhood in Egypt and returned there in 1924, where he stayed until his death in 1961. Sebasti became close friends with some of the most famous Egyptian artists, such as Mahmoud Said (1897-1964), as well as Ragheb Ayad (1892-1982). In 1935, Sebasti participated in founding the "Atelier", a circle of artists and writers which soon became the pivotal point of culture in Alexandria.
