Specialist note

The name Hamburger Schapp was already in use at the beginning of the 18th century. Johann Christian Senkeisen gave an accurate description of this type of cupboard in his book Leipziger Architektur-, Kunst-, und Seulenbuch, Leipzig, 1707.
