Specialist note

The sitter was the Swedish-born Walter Krüger, a high-ranking colonial official in the Compagnie des Indes Orientales. He was born in Stockholm in 1684 to Zophonias Krüger, a merchant, and his wife Amelia Harleman. Krüger also served as Governor of Batembanga (present-day Battambang, Cambodia), where he died on 12 January 1735.
