Specialist note

Dr. Paul Joannides noted that the composition is based upon a design by Raphael executed by Giulio Romano for the Sala di Constantino in the Vatican, Rome. Giordano was recorded as having been in Rome in 1652-53. The crane, a symbol of watchfulness is in the female personification's hand.
