The rectangular box with rounded corners, the cover, base and sides inset with enamel plaques painted with Chinese scenes, within bright-cut engraved gold mounts, the four engraved side pilasters bearing columns with acanthus plinths and capitals
3¼ in. (84 mm.) wide

Alleyne FitzHerbert, 1st Baron St Helens (1753-1839).
Thence by descent from Agnes FitzHerbert to her daughter, Judith (according to the accompanying handwritten note).

Specialist note

A very similar snuff-box by Gabriel-Raoul Morel, inset with enamel plaques painted with domestic scenes after or in the manner of Jean-Baptiste Greuze, was sold Christie's, 9 December 2003, lot 223.
