Carlos Nadal (1917-1998)
Lot 204 Born in Paris in 1917, Carlos Nadal began his artistic education in Barcelona. Having studied at the Catalan capital's School of Fine Arts Nadal moved back to Paris where he established himself as an artist and became acquainted with the great figures of the time, like Picasso and Jean Paul Sartre. Although his work shows the influence of other artists, Raoul Dufy such as, his scenes of dwelling places are ultimately his own intimate visions. Finding the human narrative in an untouched plate of food, a lone figure in a garden or in the open shutters facing out onto a square Nadal unsettles as much as he soothes with his deceptively peaceful compositions.
