This composition is derived from Canaletto's picture of the same subject, known from several versions and of which the prototype is in the Royal Collection, Windsor. The latter was engraved by Visentini in 1735. Constable also records a version of the composition in the collection of Bernard Désarnauts, Toulouse, as by Pietro Bellotti (104 x 151 cm.; Canaletto, Oxford, 1962, II, p. 294, under no. 251).
To be sold with a copy of the certificate from Professor Dario Succi (dated 17 October 2008).
