Lot 202 Le buffet semble apparaître à la fin du Moyen Age puisqu'il figure dès cette époque sur les miniatures et les tableaux. Cependant, il faut distinguer deux types de buffet : le buffet pour le service de la boisson, et le buffet de parade monté provisoirement dans la pièce de réception, généralement une démonstration de puissance et richesse. Le plus célèbre buffet est très probablement celui qui décorait le Rittersaal du Berliner Schloss, composé de citernes à vin, de fontaines, d'aiguières, de bassins et de coupes datées vers 1700. Les coupes des Hanovre étaient présentées de cette manière, comme l'atteste cette photographie datée 1868 reproduite ici, tout comme dans les appartements d'Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé.

Perhaps the best known of these buffets is the magnificent one decorating the Rittersaal of the Berliner Schloss incorporating wine-cisterns and fountains, ewers and basins and pilgrim bottles from around 1700.
