This watercolor comes from the wedding album presented by the Orleans family to the Duke of Montpensier (1824-1890), fifth son of King Louis-Phillippe of France, who married Marie-Louise-Fernande of Bourbon on 10 October, 1846.
The Montpensier album contained watercolors by many artists of the day and included works by Isabey, Lami, Bonington and Delacroix. The subjects reflected the Orleans and Montpensier family interests. All of the artists who contributed to the album were invited to a feast on 22 February, 1847 at Vincennes, where they were introduced to the new Duchess of Montpensier.
