Specialist note
With Rolex original Guarantee dated 2 February 1971, fitted presentation box and outer packaging.
The present watch is a fine example of a Cosmograph Daytona reference 6239, featuring all characteristics of this model in production from 1962 until 1976:
- the much sought after "Paul Newman" dial, also called "tropic" in Rolex's catalogues from the period, used for this reference as of the late 1960s
- standard "non-Oyster" push down chronograph buttons (as opposed to the screw down version of its "Oyster" peers)
- blank bezel calibrated for 200 units
- calibre 722-1 movement, in used during the last years of production
The particularity of this watch however is the reference number stamped into its case back, namely 6242. Neither used for any of Rolex's models nor published in literature or sales catalogues, its origins remain a mystery.
