After he printed an etching plate, Peter J. Platt, one of the professional printers who worked with Sloan, would stretch the damp paper and tack down the sheet edges. Once dried, the tacks were removed and their telltale puncture marks remained, as seen in Fifth Avenue Critics, and other impressions printed by Platt.
