Specialist note

This work is registered in the archives of the Museo Chillida-Leku, under number CH-88/GT-5.

After executing his first Gravitation piece in 1985, Chillida began working on a series of paper sculptures which allowed him to develop his theories about air and void - two themes which are constantly present in his work. These Gravitations are realised by the use of curvilinear cutouts and sheets which are then layered and hung on the wall by a string, giving the sensation of weightlessness, an effect Chillida was wanting to achieve, leaving the air free to roam through the various pieces of paper, and not being limited by conventional boundaries.
