Specialist note

Born in Berlin in 1842, Paul Meyerheim was the younger son and student of Edouard Meyerheim. The young artist received his artistic education at the Kunstakademie in Berlin, and later traveled extensively throughout Europe. A most versatile artist, Meyerheim is best known as a painter of animals, an illustrator, a woodblock engraver and a sculptor. He was also the teacher of William Kuhnert (please see lot 46).
