Specialist note

Eliza Simmance is recorded as a designer and decorator at Doulton for more than 50 years (1873-1928). Her works won many awards at international exhibitons and she was especially adept at staying in vogue with stylistic trends and learning the newest pottery techniques, including pâte-sur-pâte. See Desmond Eyles, The Doulton Lambeth Wares, London, 1975, pp. 104-105 for a futher discussion.
