Specialist note
The Priory of Penmon dates from the 6th Century and it was traditionally founded by Saint Seiriol. It was refounded in the early 13th Century by Llywelyn Ab Iorwerth (the Great) Prince of Gwynedd as a house of Augustinian canons. It survived until its dissolution by Henry VIII.
