Karl Schmidt-Rottluff (1884-1976)
Lot 114 Founded in 1916 with the aim of bringing the art of the international avantgarde to Hannover, the Kestner-Gesellschaft became - and still is - one of the most active and influential Fine Art Societies in Germany. In 1923, under the directorship of Eckart von Sydow, the society published six portfolios of prints by six different artists: El Lissitzky, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Max Kaus, Martel Schwichtenberg, Willi Robert Huth, and Lazlo Moholy-Nagy.

The Hoh Collection includes four of these six rare portfolios, which are considered one of the most important print-publishing enterprises of their time.

the complete portfolio comprising six lithographs, with justification, this copy not numbered, apparently a proof aside from the edition of 50, printed by Rob. Leunis & Chapman, Hannover, 1923, on smooth cream wove, each signed in pencil, the full sheets, S. L 99 and the justification with very pale, unobtrusive foxing, otherwise in very good condition, within the original grey card folder, with the lithographed title designed by the artist on the front, generally in good condition (portfolio)
