Specialist note
From the early 1700's on Parisian marchands-merciers purchased exquisite objects in exotic Asian porcelain directly from one of the East Indies companies and passed it to their bronziers to be decorate. The majority of objects were mounted in gilt-bronze, however, some objects were decorated with silver mounts and related Imari porcelain bowls with French silver mounts are in the Getty Museum, Malibu (inv. 74.DI.27 and 79.DI.123).
