Publio Podio collection, Genoa, circa 1920s (according to an ink stamp on the reverse), from whom purchased by the father of the present owner, in the first half of the 20th century, and by descent.

Specialist note

We are grateful to Professor Ugo Ruggeri for confirming the attribution on the basis of photographs. He notes that it is a very beautiful and important painting and compares it to Jacob blessing Joseph's sons in the Musée d'Art et d'Industrie in Saint-Etienne and Abraham teaching the Egyptians astrology in the Church of Santa Maria del Giglio in Venice. He suggests a dating of circa 1675.
