Cast in the naturalistic fashion, this timepiece is well executed to front and reverse. A virtual identical sunflower timepiece (with its original encrier base) is depicted on a watercolour illustrated in C. Plante and R. Garnier, Designs for gilt bronze objects from the French restoration 1814-1830, London 2002, p. 68, plate 52.
