A jewelled and enamelled gold cigarette-case
St. Petersburg, 1908-1917, unknown workmaster's mark in Cyrillic IP, possibly for Ivan Panfilov
Oblong, the hammered gold body applied on the cover with a circular translucent red champlevé enamel plaque with crowned initials BE and a silver sword with Russian inscription and with cabochon sapphire thumb-piece, the interior with later inscription, marked inside cover and base
3 5/8 in. (9.2 cm.) long
The inscription in Russian on a silver sword reads 'Za otlitchnuyu rubku'. The further inscription reads: 'From Arthur V Day. 8.5.45'.

Specialist note

Ivan Panfilov (b. 1870) is recorded as working in St. Petersburg between 1902-1917, and working for Fabergé.
