Specialist note
From September 1926 - April 1927 Nikolai Roerich stayed in Urga, present-day Ulan Bator, in Mongolia. He wrote in his diary: 'Of the monasteries close to Ulan Bator Khoto, the most far-famed is the so-called Manjusri Khit. From it the late Bogdo-Gegen was kidnapped. All places in Mongolia are enveloped in legend'.
