The rounded rectangular moulded top above a plain frieze and apron carved with scrolling foliage centred by a flowering basket issuing oak leaves with acorns centred by roses, the ends with shells above swagged drapery emerging from sunflowers, on legs carved with acanthus and dotted trellis and squared lion's paw foot, the reverse inscribed 'WAM 1940-106', the left swag on the frieze later, the side swags attached with wooden pegs
32 in. (81.5 cm.) high; 67 in. (170 cm.) wide; 32½ in. (82.5 cm.) deep

Specialist note

An almost identical table, probably by the same craftsman, but with a shell above the basket, was in the collection of Sir W. Thornley Stoker, Ely Place, Dublin that was sold Bennett & Sons Auctioneers, 8-10 November 1910.
The basket of flowers is a popular motif found on Irish mirrors and tables in the middle of the 18th century. Filled with flowers and grapes, the symbolism is undoubtedly classical, alluding to ver perpetuum or 'eternal spring', abundance and prosperity (The Knight of Glin and J. Peill, Irish Furniture, London and New Haven, 2007, p. 199).
