Note du spécialiste

The present sketch is a study for the seated nude in Confidences, one of the largest and most finished oil sketches of groups of nudes made by John. The present drawing is a study from life, drawn after the composition had been worked out in sketches from the imagination. For the oil painting and another related sketch, see A. D. Fraser Jenkins, exhibition catalogue, Augustus John: Studies for Compositions, Cardiff, 1978., nos. 25 & 26.
