Specialist note
This watercolour is one of thirty painted by Lt. Col. R. Baigrie during preliminary reconnaissance of the route into Abyssinia in the autumn of 1867. His paintings often give information, such as measurements of heights and distances, and topographical details that might assist an army invading unknown territory.
